| All my life I have had a keen interest in pottery, even when I was little and all the other kids at school wanted to be a fireman, nurse or pilot, I always wanted to be a potter. |
After school I went to 6th form, College then University, it wasn't until my second year at the University of Central Lancashire that I decided to experiment with a material called 'paperclay'. After much research and experimentation I created a recipe for my perfect type of porcelain and paper pulp mixture that I use to create my work today. The porcelain gives translucency when fired to 1240 degrees or more, whereas, the paper pulp gives the clay strength and durability before it is fired.
Each piece is unique as there are certain features that can only be achieved by hand making;
- 1. All edges are hand torn emphasizing the paper additive to
the clay
- 2. Each piece is hand stamped with my initials for authenticity
- 3. Porcelain has a natural tendency to warp in the kiln so it is impossible to predict what shape the piece will be once it is fired, they all have their own unique shape. The lights give a warm glow and ambiance to any room and are an ideal gift for a friend or loved one.
